Jess's Favourite Picks - Guest Blog

Spring is a time for new life, new growth – and new clothes! Even though it’s still cold outside, wardrobe-wise, I am definitely thinking of warmer, brighter times to come. I love to embrace the new, and so I was delighted, as a long-term Friend and fan of the brand, to have the chance to preview Hope’s early spring drop. The joy of new-season shopping is to find pieces that bring zing to my existing wardrobe and I find Hope consistently delivers collections that do just that.

What could be more spring-like than this gorgeous primrose sweatshirt? The colour is just perfect, and would look fantastic with blue denim, but I have styled it here with my much-loved and antiquated grey jeans, as I think it makes the whole look light and fresh. I’ve tucked the top in here (it is beautifully soft and lightweight so doesn’t add bulk when you do this) but you can also wear it loose for a more relaxed look and to show off the split hem. I particularly like the built-in turn-up to the sleeve of this piece, which lies pleasingly flat and stays in place, but can be also be worn full-length if you wish.

The Breton Knit is a great take on the classic, with the looser fit making it perfect for layering and very comfortable. It’s medium-weight, so warm but not bulky, and the stripes have been cleverly positioned to make this piece stylish and flattering, avoiding adding width to the shoulders. Breton stripes always put me in a holiday mood, so to complete this ‘coastal chic’ look, I teamed it with a new addition to Hope’s Power Foundation range: the cropped wide leg trousers (already popular in black), now in navy. As with all the Foundation pieces, these trousers are incredibly comfortable and smooth, with the high stretch content adding structure and support. Also, they can be altered free of charge (for reference, I am 5’8” and wearing the standard length), a service Hope offers with many of its trousers.

I’m channelling the Riviera with this look, going for full-on nautical! This top’s silky-smooth fabric feels lovely on the skin and tucks nicely into my sailor jeans, balancing out the wide leg with a sleek top half. The boat neck is designed to flatter and again balances the wider bottoms. I find the reverse colour-way (to the traditional Breton) and wide stripe very striking. I’ve broken up the blue with a pop of yellow, which also brings in the spring.

I have to tell you: Hope’s cashmere is the softest I have ever felt! This boyfriend jumper is like being cocooned in fluffy clouds – but warmer! The pale blue colour is very pretty for spring, and would look fab with white ankle skimmers; although I am cuddled up here in my knackered grey jeans, the gorgeous jumper gives them a nice lift. I find loose jumpers are often blighted by sleeves that are too baggy and / or short – what’s the point of a woolly jumper if your wrists are left out in the cold? This piece gets it spot on, tempering the loose fit with a flattering, semi-fitted lower sleeve and lovely long cuff. There is a swoonsome cashmere wrap in the same shade too, which notches up the cosy to the max and looks wonderfully luxe. I haven’t shown it here, though, because I wanted to highlight the well-considered V of this jumper, which is just right, not too high and not too deep!

My final pick is the Hope Comfort Pull-on Trousers, which I can confirm live up to their name! I love my jeans with a passion, but in spring especially, I like to mix it up with something lighter but still relaxed and easy to wear. These trousers fit the bill perfectly. They are loose but well cut and in a lovely, drapey fabric that makes them flattering and fall well. The wide elasticated waistband gives them the edge on comfort (over jeans) and sits flat so you can wear tops tucked in or out. They would look great with both the Breton Knit and the Stripey Boat-Neck Top I showed above. They fit perfectly with my favourite daytime look of logo tee or sweatshirt and trainers, but the silky fabric and tapered cut lends itself to a more dressy look too: they look fab with my leopard-print blouse and high heels for evening. Again, just to note, they can be altered free of charge (I am 5’8” and wearing the standard length).

I really enjoyed checking out the new collection and working out what will work best in my wardrobe (top of my list is the gorgeous primrose sweatshirt), and I hope you will too.

Here’s to spring!
